⚠️ Nissan manufacturer position
There is no fuel filler for petrol or diesel on a Leaf. If a combustible liquid is introduced elsewhere (e.g. mistaken reservoir), follow Nissan EV safety procedures including HV isolation before any remedial work.

Misfuel risk Not applicable
Battery-electric variants have no petrol or diesel tank; contamination risk relates to other fluids (e.g. washer reservoir) rather than misfuel at the fuel filler.
If the engine was not started
If someone attempted to pour fuel into a non-existent filler, contain spill, ventilate, and clean exterior paintwork — no fuel system recovery needed.
If the engine was started
Leaf cannot be “started on wrong fuel”; if combustion fuel was illegally introduced into the battery area or motor bay, treat as contamination incident and involve Nissan EV-qualified repairers.
Access procedure
- Confirm the vehicle is a battery-electric Leaf — no petrol or diesel drain is required for standard misfuel at the fuel flap (there is none).
- If incorrect fluid was added to washer or another reservoir, do not operate related systems until drained per Nissan EV workshop manual.
- Apply HV safety: PPE, service plug/lockout steps, and battery state checks per Nissan Service Box EV guidelines.
- Contain and dispose of any contaminated fluid under hazardous waste duty of care.
- Inspect adjacent wiring and modules if corrosive or petroleum fluid was spilled in the motor bay.
- Clear DTCs and perform functional checks after reassembly.
Notes
- UK Leaf drivers occasionally confuse e-POWER petrol models with the Leaf — verify model badge.

Frequently asked questions
Can you put petrol in a Nissan Leaf?
UK Leaf has no petrol or diesel filler cap. Any attempt indicates confusion with another vehicle or tampering — clean spills and secure the charge port area.
Does Leaf misfuel affect warranty?
Liquid damage from pouring fuel into non-fuel openings may still be classified as misuse; follow Nissan EV inspection guidance.
What about AdBlue on a Leaf?
Leaf does not use AdBlue — that applies to diesel exhaust after-treatment only.
