⚠️ Renault manufacturer position

Renault LCV manuals often require tank lowering from underbody mounts. Contamination is not warranty-covered.

Misfuel risk High

Diesel variants use common-rail injection at very high pressure; petrol in diesel destroys pump lubrication and can contaminate the entire fuel circuit within seconds of running. LCV forecourt misfuel is common on Master fleets.

If the engine was not started

Drain diesel tank, replace fuel filter, prime low-pressure pump, check AdBlue system unaffected.

If the engine was started

Assume HP pump and injector inspection; downtime significant for commercial operators.

Access procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and relieve fuel system pressure per OEM procedure.
  2. Access the in-tank fuel pump module via the manufacturer-specified route (access panel or tank lowering).
  3. Drain contaminated fuel using approved recovery equipment into suitable containers for hazardous waste duty of care.
  4. Inspect the tank, sender unit, and lines; replace the fuel filter and any contaminated flexible lines as required.
  5. Reassemble, refill with the correct fuel grade, prime the low-pressure circuit, and check for leaks before start.
  6. If the engine was run on wrong fuel, follow OEM guidance for high-pressure pump, rail, and injector inspection before restart.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I put petrol in my Renault Master diesel?

Do not start the engine or turn the ignition on. Have the fuel extracted from the tank using OEM-prescribed access methods and dispose of contaminated fuel under your duty of care (Environmental Protection Act 1990). Use a GBIFDA-certified technician where possible.

Will Renault warranty cover misfuel damage on a Master?

Renault typically classifies wrong-fuel events as customer misuse, which is excluded from warranty. Repairs are usually funded by the driver, insurer, or breakdown cover subject to policy terms.

Can contaminated fuel be siphoned from a Renault Master?

Most UK-market Renault models have filler-neck anti-siphon features. OEM service information normally requires pump-module access or tank lowering rather than suction through the filler neck.

Does a Renault Master need new injectors after misfuel?

If the engine was not started, draining, filtering, and line flush may be sufficient. If it was driven on wrong fuel, high-pressure pump and injector inspection or replacement is commonly required per OEM diagnostics.
