Misfuel risk High

Diesel Auris models are sensitive to petrol in diesel; hybrid models still have a petrol tank at risk of diesel fill.

If the engine was not started

Do not start the engine. Leave the ignition off, avoid turning the key to ON (which can prime the fuel pump). Have the vehicle recovered to a workshop. Extract fuel from the tank and flush the fuel system using Toyota-prescribed access before attempting to start.

If the engine was started

If the engine was run on contaminated fuel, expect extended work: tank fuel extraction, new fuel filter(s), fuel line purge, and inspection of high-pressure pump and injectors per Toyota service data. Hybrid models may also need inverter cooling circuit checks if wrong fluid entered any reservoir.

Access procedure

  1. Relieve fuel pressure.
  2. Disconnect battery.
  3. Remove rear seat cushion and access cover.
  4. Disconnect module lines and connector.
  5. Remove lock ring; drain tank.
  6. Replace fuel filter if contaminated.
  7. Refill correct fuel; prime and test.

Frequently asked questions

I put petrol in my Auris diesel — drive to a recovery provider?

No. Recover without starting. Petrol in diesel can damage the HP fuel pump on the first start.

Is the Auris hybrid tank smaller?

Similar capacity to petrol hatch; always verify on the build label after drain.
