⚠️ Toyota manufacturer position
Toyota specifies fuel pump access under the rear seat on most Yaris generations (Method A). Warranty excludes misfuelling. Use Toyota Europe repair procedures for line quick-connects.

Misfuel risk Moderate
Petrol and hybrid Yarises dominate UK sales. Older diesel Yarises remain at petrol-in-diesel risk. Hybrid auto-start requires READY-off during fuel work.
If the engine was not started
Drain tank and lines. On diesel Yaris, replace filter if petrol entered the low-pressure circuit.
If the engine was started
Diesel: treat as HP pump risk if petrol was run. Petrol/hybrid: inspect injectors and catalyst if severely contaminated.
Access procedure
- Do not start if wrong fuel added; hybrid: READY off and key away
- Relieve pressure; disconnect 12 V battery
- Remove rear seat base and access panel
- Disconnect pump electrical and fuel line couplings
- Remove lock ring; lift pump and drain tank
- Replace O-ring; reassemble and check leaks
- Prime system per Toyota before road test
Notes
- Japanese-market Vitz imports use the same platform but were not sold new as Vitz in the UK

Frequently asked questions
How do I drain a Toyota Yaris after misfuelling?
Use Toyota pump access procedure under the rear seat where fitted, or follow GBIFDA Method A guidance. Do not run the engine until the tank contains the correct fuel.
Is the Yaris Hybrid petrol only?
Yes in the UK. It has a petrol tank and cannot use diesel. Keep the hybrid system off during draining.
Were diesel Yarises sold in the UK?
Some earlier generations had a 1.4 D-4D option. These are vulnerable to petrol misfuel like any diesel.
Will Toyota warranty pay for misfuel damage?
No — incorrect fuel is customer misuse and is excluded.
